Biography
David has collaborated with several notable ensembles such as the Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra, American Composers Orchestra, Southwest Florida Symphony, On-Site Opera, West Point Band, Sugar Hill Salon, S.E.M. Ensemble, Bronx Opera, New Camerata Opera, and ShoutHouse. He was a regular substitute on the 2018 Off-Broadway revival of the Fiddler on The Roof in Yiddish, both in the pit and on stage as a klezmer musician. Recent festival appearances include the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra, Connecticut Summer Festival, NYC Electro-Acoustic Music Festival, Montreal New Music Festival, and the Endless Mountain Music Festival. A pasiomate educator, David is currently on faculty at the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College and the Third Street Music School. He is also a bilingual teaching artist at The Hamilton Grange Middle School and holds several residencies throughout New York City as a Midori and Friends teaching artist. His passion for community outreach has led him to collaborate with several arts organizations such as New York Philharmonic, Caramoor Center for Music and Arts, Lyric Chamber Music Society, Little Orchestra Society, and Mozart for Munchkins to bring high quality and engaging classical music performances to thousands of kids in New York City. He has recorded for New Amsterdam Records and can be heard on ShoutHouse’s most recent album, Cityscapes. David holds a Master of Music from the Manhattan School of Music and a Bachelor of Music from Queens College.
Clarinetist David Valbuena has established himself as a highly sought after and compelling woodwind artist in the New York City area. His versatile and sensitive playing style has led to performances across several disciplines including chamber, orchestral, contemporary, and improvised music. Proud of his Colombian-American heritage, David is strong proponent of Latin American culture within classical music, often performing works by past and contemporary Hispanic composers. David has most recently been appointed as clarinetist with Quintet of the Americas, an ensemble established in Bogota, Colombia in 1976 whose mission is to broaden knowledge and appreciation for new music from the Western hemisphere. He has performed throughout the US, Canada, Europe, and China at some of the worlds most prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, David Gefen Hall, and KKL Lucerne among many others.
